About construction quality
The hull and deck are made of sandwich with biaxial and unidirectional glass fabrics impregnated with vinylester resin. In the central part of the boat the structure consists of a grid of galvanized steel stringers and floors, to ensure a high resistance to concentrated loads. The structural frame is designed to constitute a closed structural ring, able to distribute in an optimal manner efforts on the hull and deck and to withstand the large loads from the keel, mast and rigging.
Engine and systems room
The inspection, as well as from the opening stairs, is guaranteed by two 150 cm tall doors giving access to a free area, where to reach engine and systems well in all their parts. The engine is turned with the inverter towards the bow, with advantages in the distribution of the weights.
Sandwich construction
The hull and deck are made of sandwich with biaxial and unidirectional glass fabrics impregnated with vinylester resin. The PVC core has different densities. Carbon reinforcements are placed in high load areas.
Main structural frame
The structural frame is designed to constitute a closed structural ring, able to distribute in an optimal manner efforts on the hull and deck and to withstand the large loads from the keel, mast and rigging.
Structural reinforcements
The structure provides an extensive use of structural reinforcements, both longitudinal as transversal, made of unidirectional carbon fiber and composite. In the bow part there are carbon reinforced structural framings laminated directly to the hull. This structural arrangement has the aim of supporting the slamming loads occuring when sailing in severe weather conditions.
Structure and bulkheads
In the central part of the boat the structure consists of a grid of galvanized steel stringers and floors, to ensure a high resistance to concentrated loads and allow a greater capacity of the fuel and water tanks, all seats in the lower and central zone. On this structure, insist loads of keel, mast and chainplates. In other areas the structure continues with stringers and floors made of fiberglass, reinforced with unidirectional carbon tops, integrated into the steel grid with large areas of overlap.
Structural furniture
Many of the wardrobes and shelfs are designed as part of the structure of the boat, with the result of reducing weight and increasing rigidity. A watertight bulkhead separate the anchor department, sail locker and the interior of the boat for safety.
Deck concept
The deck layout remind the maxy yachts’ one. This allows to have wide areas free from equipment: a separate cockpit area, side decks and large areas for sunbathing. All the equipment is of the highest quality, starting from the oversized winches for jib and mainsail trim. All winches can be electric powered. On the coachroof there are tracks for the jib sheets inclusive of travellers, and 14 clutches and relative deck organizers are installed on the deck plan. All pushpits and stanchions are made in stainless steel and side gates are installed on both sides of the boat.
Deck and coachroof design
The peculiar portholes design is further emphasized by the presence of different levels that give movement to the whole profile. The grid on the coaming provides a touch
of exclusivity. The coachroof is conceived to allow the storage of the sprayhood and of all the lines, which run recessed up to the winches. Coachroof central area is perfect for sunbathing; on each side there are the jib rails, with adjustments to the cockpit, which allow optimal upwind angles.
The numerous hatches are all flush deck. The sidewalk is free from equipment and allows the passage towards the bow safely and comfortably. The anchoring system provides a windlass 1.500 W for an anchor housed on a steel bow roller. The slightly angled bow benefits the anchoring operation. It can be supplied a bowsprit as well as a pivoting system that allow to hide the whole anchor arm. The through deck furler and foldable moorings cleats emphasize the tidiness of the whole area.
Keel and rudder
Italia 15.98 is proposed with various versions of the keel, in order to satisfy the different ways to use the boat. The standard version, for those who want maximum performance or have any draft limitations, provides a 2.90 m T-shaped keel, with Weldox 700 steel blade and a lead torpedo. There are two L-shaped keel options for shallow draft. The rudder has a standard high aspect ratio and it is 2.50 meters deep. The steering system includes two pedestals with completely separate and independent circuits to improve the safety during navigation.

Various layouts are available, including large aft owner’s cabin versions. Two to five cabin layouts are available. A bow crew cabin option is offered complete with sink and wc. The styling ensures optimum brightness while maintaining a warm and cosy atmosphere.
The saloon, offered in two different versions, is bright and airy thanks to the many portlights, of which seven are openable. On the port side of the main cabin, the dining table and sofa seating for eight can be served by further seats on the opposite side.
There are various alternatives on the starboard side: when the galley is at stern, organized on both sides along the passage leading to the cabin, there is another sofa that ends at the bow with the chart table. Alternatively, in this area you can opt for a large galley with a central work area.
The large teak cockpit is divided into three areas. The front part is reserved for guests and completely free from equipment. The benches, 2.30 meters long and 58 cm wide, also perfect for sunbathing, are served by a large table with folding wings, protected by a sprayhood, supplied as standard. Under the benches there are two deep lockers for equipment.
In line with the wheels, the cockpit floor is lowered; the manouvering area is concentrated close to the wheels, with enough space for the crew but with ergonomics that allows the helmsman to control the whole boat using the four winches. Behind the wheels a flat and clear surface can be fully allocated to sunbathing area, in direct connection with the sea.
Under the cockpit floor there is a large storage compartment accessible by three lockers to store equipment and facilities, while on one side there is a liferaft locker.
Italia 15.98 is design to let you live well on board while sailing. Development of the excellent hull that characterizes the smaller sister Italia 13.98, Italia 15.98 earns the internal hull volume and livebility on deck without substantially increasing the wet surface.
The hull has flared sections with knee high and deep deadrise at the bow. The shape allows a variable stern waterline length, limited with low wind, stretches dynamically with increasing speed.
Very cared are the aspects related to comfort at sea, with careful study on the longitudinal trim and symmetry of the volumes while heeled as well as in the concentration of the weights as much as possible to limit the tendency to pitch.
